This dish is related to Latin America and it is a specialty of Mexico. Sometimes,it is served as an appetizer. This dish is mainly based on raw fish or shrimp. This fish or shrimp is marinated by lemon or lime as citrus juices.
The acidity of the lemon or the lime would be increasing the acidity of the dish and thus, it would e curing the fish to be denaturing the proteins as well as becoming firm in nature while absorbing the flavor.
The fish or shrimp would be dealing with the flavors and then, you would be able to add other ingredients as peppers, onions, tomatoes, cilantro and other ingredients as you prefer.
This recipe is really so vibrant that it fits mornings, parties, weekends, and weekdays. This recipe is away from sugar, fats or carbohydrates. It shall manage your lifestyle better.


For Raw Shrimp Version

 If you shall go with using raw shrimps, then you will be adding ½ cup if lemon juice as well as ½ cup of lime juice that would e added for around 30-60 minutes to be added in the fridge until you can find that the shrimps are opaque in color.

Afterward, you would be adding the other ingredients like tomatoes, onions, cilantro, jalapeno, salt, and pepper and marinate 30 minutes longer. For an extra boost to the taste, then add avocado and cucumber.




Ceviche Recipe Ingredients

·         Shrimp: you better choose small or medium-sized shrimps. In case, it is medium, then cut into small parts.

·         Limes: 3 limes.

·         Lemons: 2 lemons.

·         Roma tomatoes: you can go with cherry tomatoes.

·         Red onions: chopped and you can even use yellow onions.

·         Cilantro: the more you add, then the stronger the flavor would be.

·         Jalapeno: for spicy taste and for milder taste, then remove the seeds.

·         Salt and pepper: Add to taste.

·         Cucumber: for crunchy and fresh taste.

·         Avocado: usually, this ingredient is not included in the ingredients. However, when you add it, you will find how it is adding to the deliciousness of the taste.


How to Make Ceviche?

First, Boil water in pot, and then, fill bowl of ice water and thus, you shall be having two pots; one with hot water and another one, with cold water.

Second, Cook shrimp by adding it in the boiling water and then, leave until its color turn to opaque. It shall be around 1 minute.

Third step, start draining and chilling as well as chopping shrimps. The draining of the shrimp would be in colander and afterwards, transfer to ice water and leave to cool for few minutes. Afterwards, start draining the water and chopping of the shrimps in dice form pieces.

Fourth step, add fresh ingredients to the shrimps as in medium bowl, add the shrimp, lemon and lime, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, pepper, season, salt and pepper, jalapeno and thus, the taste shall be formed.

Fifth step, this is the marinating process and transfer to the refrigerator and leave for one hour.

Sixth step, you can add the last ingredients and they would be the cucumber, the avocado and the then serve. You can tortilla chips and the tostada shells.


 Ceviche Recipe Variations

·         Use fish and cut in small chunks. The fish types you can use would be as cod, talapia, mahi mahi, snapper, bass, halibut. Simmer in water until just barely cooked through, or let marinate in 2/3 cup lemon juice and 2/3 cup lime juice until it no longer looks raw when broken open which can take up to 7 hours. Raw version is not recommended for food safety.

·         Make it spicier: Add Mexican hot sauce (Tapatio, Cholula, Valentina) to the dip (1 Tbsp or more to taste).

·         Add garlic: If you have a hard time leaving garlic out and you can add 1 minced clove here.

·         Add some richness: you can add 3 teaspoon of olive oil.

·         Replace cucumber: Try diced radishes, jicama, corn, poblano or bell pepper.



How Long Does it Last?

This recipe is very good for one day stay in the fridge and you would be adding the cucumber and the avocado on the serving time in order that you would be having the best quality.
